On Monday 20 May, all cycling eyes will be on the Ronde van Limburg. To highlight the classic race in Flanders' easternmost province and at the same time get as many cycling fans as possible excited for the European Cycling Championships in September, EK Limburg 2024 is launching a new initiative with 'The Bike'. Would you like to find out the locations at which The Bike is going to stop on Monday 20 May? Then turn up, take a selfie with the two-wheeler and stand a chance of winning VIP tickets for the European Cycling Championships or one of the other prizes!

On Monday 20 May, the 76th edition of the Ronde van Limburg is taking place between Hasselt and Tongeren. It will be the dress rehearsal for the European Championships. We will not only get to know the successor to Gerben Thijssen on Whit Monday; you can also search for The Bike at four locations in Limburg, an initiative in the context of the 2024 UEC Road European Championships.

What is The Bike?

The Bike - a red two-wheeler - will be travelling through Flanders' easternmost province on Monday 20 May, the day of the Ronde van Limburg, stopping on four locations. In this way, EK Limburg 2024 wants to put the province and, by extension, Flanders under the spell of the European Cycling Championships.

How to take part?

Starting on Tuesday 14 May, via the Instagram channel limburg2024 and this page, you receive a teaser each day about one of the four locations where The Bike is going to appear. At the end of the week, on Sunday 19 May, a list of the exact locations and times when The Bike is going to be present will appear both here and on Instagram.

Then, on Monday 20 May, go to one of the four locations at the right time and take a photo with the two-wheeler. Then send us your photo before 23:59 on Monday, 20 May to the Instagram account or via e-mail to info@limburg2024.be, stating your name and e-mail address. Accomplished? Then you have a chance of winning one of many prizes! We will notify the winners personally on Tuesday 21 May.

The locations

The Bike will visit the four locations below on Monday, May 20th. Make sure you're there during the designated time slot, take a photo with the bike, send it to us, and have a chance to win a nice prize!

1. Monnoyer Chimney

Heusden-Zolder is not only the starting point of all the races that will be organized as part of the 2024 UEC Road European Championships, it is also the departure point of the journey The Bike will embark on on Monday, May 20th.

For those who want to take a photo with The Bike in Heusden-Zolder, it's best to come between 9:00 and 10:15 to the Monnoyer Chimney (Schachtplein 1), the first smoke exhaust chimney of the coal mine boiler house. The concrete tower is 40 meters high and dates back to 1913.

2. Kolonel Dusartplein

Just like the cyclists, The Bike rides from Heusden-Zolder to Hasselt, the arrival city during the European Cycling Championships in September.

For those who want to search for the bicycle in the provincial capital of Limburg, they can do so on Monday, May 20th between 11:00 and 12:30 at the Kolonel Dusartplein. In September, the square is located near the finish line.

3. Cycling through Water

'Cycling through Water' in Bokrijk is a unique cycling experience in which you cycle more than 200 meters through a pond. The bike path opened in April 2016 and leads you from one bank of the pond to the other. In the middle the water is at eye level on both sides. You feel, see and smell the water.

Do you want to take a selfie with The Bike here? Then come on Monday, May 20th between 13:00 and 14:00 to bike junction 91 in Bokrijk. The exact GPS coordinates of this bike junction are 50.963069, 5.392711.

4. Reading between the Lines

'Reading between the Lines', the see-through church by the Belgian architect duo Gijs Van Vaerenbergh in Borgloon, is 10 metres high and consists of 100 stacked layers of steel plate in the shape of a small church of Loon. The construction weighs a whopping 30 tons. The special way of construction makes the landscape always visible throughout the church, from far away and up-close. The church is therefore present but also absent in the landscape.

On Monday, May 20th, between 15:00 and 16:30, you'll have the chance to take a selfie with The Bike at the see-through church.

Competition rules
