Alec Segaert retains his title as European champion

The 31.2km time trial course between Heusden-Zolder and Hasselt was the setting for the U23 Men's European time trial event. Alec Segaert extended his European title with a dominant performance. The battle for second place was won by the Swede Jakob Söderqvist ahead of Dutchman Wessel Mouris.

After the rain comes the sunshine. After a rained-soaked championship for the U23 Women, the skies were once again clear between Heusden-Zolder and Hasselt for the men’s event. With the road now dry, the first top time was posted by the Belgian Robin Orins. With a time of 36'03", he was almost a minute faster than his predecessor on the hot seat. Orins' top time was soon surpassed by the Swede Söderqvist who briefly clocked the best time with 35'37". The current U23 European time trial champion Alec Segaert was the last one to roll off the starting podium. The big favourite stormed from Heusden-Zolder to Hasselt in a time of 35'06", taking the European gold by a wide margin. For Segaert, it is his third European title in a row. The Swede Söderqvist took second place, more than 30 seconds behind, and Wessel Mouris completed the podium in the U23 Men’s event.
